Here are South Key Management’s top restaurants to try on Tybee Island.
Arguably one of the most popular restaurants on Tybee Island, the Crab Shack is the perfect causal place to go if you are looking for fresh shellfish. As the name suggests, they have several different crab offerings, including Dungeness crab, snow crab, Alaskan King crab, Deviled crab, and more.
In addition to crab, they also have the low country boil a dish with shrimp, sausage, corn and potatoes – a must have when in the South. Try their ‘Snow Country Boil,’ with snow crab. You won’t be disappointed!
If you are looking for a place to grab breakfast, you can’t beat the Breakfast Club. Make sure to get there early as they close at 12:30pm. Enjoy an old school traditional Southern breakfast with staples like chicken fried steak and grits.
While the line may be long, it moves pretty quickly. This family-owned restaurant is perfect for a quick bite before you walk down to the beach.
Have you ever wondered how ribs and shrimp would go together? If you have, or if the idea intrigues you, then head to Gerald’s Pig and Shrimp. Open each day from 11:30 am until 8pm (or when they run out of food), Gerald’s Pig and Shrimp serves typical barbecue plates along with various versions of shrimp, fish, and oysters. What started out as a catering business (Gerald’s Chuckwagon) then turned into a diner in Savannah(Gerald’s Diner) has settled as the food truck with seating on Tybee Island.
If you feel adventurous, try the shrimp n ribs dinner. If you want something more classic, you can’t go wrong with their shrimp and hush puppies.
Bubba Gumbo’s has an ideal location: right along Lazaretto Creek. You can enjoy seeing wildlife in the marsh while you enjoy your dinner. Originally founded in1997, Bubba Gumbo’s was reopened in 2015 by the original owner’s daughter. Now the restaurant features fun interpretations of class dishes, like the seafood mac n’ cheese full of shrimp, scallops, and crab!
Bubba Gumbo’s is a decent brunch spot on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-1pm.
