The Best Fun Summer Activities in Savannah, Georgia

Summer is the most popular season for people who want to visit Savannah, and with good reason! The temperatures are ideal for walking around the city, Forsyth Park is full of foliage and flowers, and there are endless options for outdoor dining.

Here are four reasons why South Key Management thinks you should visit Savannah this summer.

1 – Visit Tybee Island

No summer vacation is complete without a trip to the beach. Luckily, Tybee Island is very close to Savannah (20 miles). So, if you are staying in Savannah, you can easily take a day trip to one of the Tybee Island beaches.

While there, make sure to:

  • Take a dolphin tour to see the wild bottlenose dolphins
  • Visit Georgia’s oldest and tallest lighthouse
  • Go kayaking with a guided tour from Sea Kayak
  • Grab some ice cream at the Sugar Shack
  • Try some seafood at one of the local restaurants

2 – Explore in the Warm Weather in Savannah

Savannah is a very beautiful city, especially during the summer when the grass is green, the gardens are full of flowers, and the weather is perfect for strolling downtown, hopping on a trolley tour, or even a riverboat cruise.

Here are three ways to explore Savannah during the summer.

Walk the city – there are so many different things to see in Savannah and luckily you can get around rather easily on foot! Make sure you have comfortable sneakers and then you can walk through Forsyth Park to see the flowers, stroll down River Street to find a bite to eat or check out the many shopping opportunities downtown!

Take a trolley tour – if you don’t feel up to walking through the city, a great option during the summer months is to do a trolley tour. Savannah Sightseeing Tours has several different trolley tour options including a one-day pass, two-day pass, and even a trolley ghost tour! These narrated tours are a great way to see the historical sites of the city and stay a little cooler.

Cruise down the river – for a unique sightseeing opportunity, consider booking a riverboat cruise on the Georgia Queen and enjoy an afternoon or evening sailing along the Savannah River. There are different cruise options, some with food and entertainment. This is a nice way to see a different view of Savannah, stay cool, and enjoy some drinks and food!
