Traveling to a new place can feel overwhelming, especially if it's a place like Savannah, GA where there is so much to see and do! Whether you're only in town for one day or more than a week, you want to take in all the sights, activities, and food of this truly exciting city. But how can you make the most out of your time in Savannah? At South Key Management, we love the idea of doing a tour (or two or three!) to really take advantage of everything this historic American town has to offer. From short Trolley tours around the city to the legendary riverboat tours, here is a collection of the seven best tours in Savannah Georgia.

1. A Trolley Tour Through Savannah's Historic District

A trolley tour is a great way to just sit back, relax, and experience Savannah's best locations. Old town trolley tours offer 90-minute narrated Hop on- Hop off Savannah tours that hit over 100 points of interest as well as several optional stops for visitors with a destination in mind. Trolley tours give visitors a look into the history of this great city while expert guides always make it a trip to remember. Hop off the tour any time you like to explore beautiful parks, museums, restaurants, and more without fighting crowds or trying to get to your destination in a car. You'll find a diverse range of trolley tours of savannah including:

  • Old Town Trolley tours, where you'll visit Savannah's historic district and some of the city's most famous landmarks such as Davenport House, Forsyth Park, River Street, City Market, and more. Make sure your tour guide points out landmarks from the famous movie Forrest Gump!
  • Ghost hunters of Savannah tour where guests are part of a paranormal investigation along the infamously-haunted Liberty Street.
  • Old Town Trolley and The Prohibition Museum Package which includes a trip to the American Prohibition museum as well as plenty of historical sights and landmarks of Georgia's first city!
  • Savannah for Morons is a trolley tour AND a comedy show! This 90-minute tour drives around Savannah in a trolley while your guide explains the history of Savannah mixed with lots of tongue-in-cheek jokes and hilarious banter.

Trolley tours are especially wonderful for those who have never visited Savannah, because they make it easy to get a glimpse of what the city has to offer and figuring out what you want to see more of.

2‍. Museum and Architectural Tours

These tours of Savannah's oldest buildings are both educational and fun for the entire family.

  • Davenport Museum Tour- The 200 year old Davenport building houses exhibits that preserve Savannah's rich history and gives visitors a hands-on experience of 18th Century living.
  • American Prohibition museum- Learn about the history of prohibition during the 1920's and the bootleggers who opposed it.
  • The Owens-Thomas House Once home to the most powerful people in Savannah in the 1800s and the African people that lived with them, this house tour is a fascinating look into Georgia's past.

  • Architectural Tours of Savannah- A walking tour of well-preserved buildings in the Victorian district right next to Forsyth Park. Guests will get to explore what life was like so long ago in these well-preserved houses.

3. A Land & Sea Combination Tour

This combination tour combines the fun of sightseeing trolley tours with a riverboat cruise!

The 90-minute tour starts in the Historic District. A tour guide narrates the story of Savannah's past as you cruise around the city. 4. A Riverboat Tour on the Savannah River

If you prefer to spend time on the water, without a trolley tour, you can take a 90 minute riverboat cruise with the Savannah Riverboat Sightseeing Cruise. Enjoy panoramic views of the water while hearing facts about the city and its past. You'll pass by Old Fort Jackson, one of the oldest artillery pieces in the country.

They also offer romantic sunset cruises, brunch cruises, cruises at night, and special seasonal cruises with wonderful holiday themes!

As with any riverboat experience, if you get seasick stock up on the Dramamine or skip this particular tour.

5. A Walking Food Tour

A really fun way to experience the city is to do a walking food tour. We love the Off the Beaten Path Secret East Side Historic Walking Food Tour. This legendary tour is a three-hour, 1.1-mile walking tour where you stop at six different restaurants in Savannah's Historic District's East side. You will not only experience delicious food, but also learn about Savannah's architecture, history, and culture.

Sample Savannah staples like pimento cheese croissants, en papillote chicken, and Belgium Liege waffles with southern fried chicken. A food tour is truly the best way to experience Savannah's culinary delights and southern hospitality.

6. A Segway Tour

One of our favorite ways to experience Savannah is on a segway. The 60-minute Guided Segway Tour of Savannah will take you through neighborhoods filled with historic homes, museums, churches, mansions, monuments, and even famous forts. Grab your small group of history buffs and ride past the amazing antebellum mansions of historic Savannah and maybe even visit some movie locations!

Segway training is included, just remember to dress appropriately. And don't worry- segways are very easy to maneuver, so even first-timers will catch on quick and be exploring the city attractions in no time.

7. A Ghost Tour

Finally, we highly recommend taking at least one ghost tour while you are visiting Savannah. Being one of the most haunted cities in the country means there are lots of haunted spots to see.

We recommend a Witching Hour Paranormal Ghost Tours to find thrilling interactive ghost tours. Check out the Real Haunted Mansion tour where your tour guide will show you around the supposedly haunted Sorrell-Weed house or the Bespoke ghost tours that take you to some of Savannah's most haunted outdoor locations in the historic district. They even have tours led by a local Clairvoyant or actual paranormal investigator. You can also book a private ghost tour with Witching Hour or go on a haunted cruise! They offer a wide selection of tours perfect for anyone seeking to witness paranormal activity.

If you are looking for a less involved ghost tour, another favorite is Ghost City Tours. They have multiple options for tours where you can hear stories of civil war ghost sightings, walk the grounds of the Bonaventure cemetery and explore many more of Savannah's most haunted locations. Check out their Grave Tales hour for kids - it has just the right amount of spookiness for little ones.
