5 Ways to Ring in the New Year in Savannah

It may be hard to believe, but 2023 is less than a month away! If you don’t have plans for New Year’s Eve, there are so many ways to celebrate in Savannah.  

There is nothing quite like the holiday season in Savannah and that includes New Year’s Eve. Here are five ways to ring in 2023, making Savannah the ideal location for your new year celebration!

1 – Head to City Market

City Market continues to be one of the central celebration locations in Savannah. Shops are ready for every holiday and New Year’s Eve is no exception! Stop by City Market during the day to enjoy free music and other fun. Restaurants will be open late for New Year’s as well – just make sure to make a direct booking reservation!

2 – Fireworks on Tybee Island

If fireworks on the beach is what you are looking for, head to Tybee Island for their annual New Year’s Eve fireworks! You can spend the day at the beach, grab a bite to eat at any of the great restaurants, and then watch the fireworks later that night from the pier and pavilion. The show starts at 11:59pm and goes until 12:15am. 

If you want to see fireworks in downtown Savannah, we suggest you arrive early to save a prime sightseeing spot at the waterfront. Hotel rooftops like Cotton Sail Hotel and the Bohemian Hotel will have a front view facing the Savannah River.  

3 – Celebrate on a Riverboat Cruise

A popular way to experience New Year’s Eve in Savannah is on a Savannah Riverboat Cruise along the Savannah River. With three different cruise options, there is a celebration for everyone! 

• New Year’s Eve Dinner Cruise – a great family option, this cruise leaves at 5:30 and includes a buffet dinner. 
• New Year’s Eve Gala Cruise – this adult only cruise leaves at 9:30pm and returns after midnight. Dress up for the occasion and enjoy a plated surf and turf dinner.

4 – Attend a New Year’s Eve Gala

For a fancy night out, get tickets to the Plant Riverside District’s Diamonds are Forever – New Year’s Eve Gala inspired by James Bond’s Diamonds Are Forever movie. Attendees will enjoy hors d’oeuvres followed by a gourmet four-course dinner all topped off with a New Year’s champagne toast! With live music performances, you can dance the night away. Held at the Salzburg Ballroom, this is a pricey event, but a once in a lifetime way to ring in the new year.

5 – Party on a Rooftop Bar

In downtown Savannah, there is no shortage of rooftop bars to find for dinner and special events. You get the ambiance of an outdoor party with spectacular views of the city and fireworks. Here are three bars we recommend for New Year’s Eve:

• Bar Julian – at Savannah’s tallest rooftop bar located above the Thompson Savannah you can enjoy food and drinks at their Black & White Ball and then grab a room for the night.
• Rocks on the Roof – located in the Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront, enjoy an evening at one of Savannah’s newest hot spots where Southern inspired food is made with fresh ingredients.
• Electric Moon Skytop Lounge + the Moon Deck  – this bar on top of the JW Marriot Hotel is known for its fun like atmosphere and unique drinks.
