4 Events to Kickoff Spring in Savannah, Georgia

Even though it is still wintertime and the holidays just happened, it is the perfect time to start planning those spring break vacations! Savannah is the perfect place to travel to in the spring as you have historical landmarks to explore, a beach nearby, and several parks that will be in full bloom. Finally, Savannah has several popular annual spring events to choose from for an optimal way to embrace the new season.

Here are four events that South Key recommends this spring:

  1. The Savannah Book Festival – February 16th – 19th

Yes, February could be considered winter, but in Savannah, we consider it the start of the spring season. If you are in Savannah that weekend, check out the 15th Annual Savannah Book Festival in historic downtown Savannah. The festival on Saturday is free for everyone, while the headlining author presentations are available for a small fee.

Some of the authors attending the festival include:

  • Rachel Hawkins
  • Shelby Van Pelt
  • James Rollins
  • Jim Towey (AKA late Mother Teresa’s legal counsel)
  1. Club Car Championship – March 20th-26th

An awesome local golf event for golf enthusiasts is the annual Club Car Championship at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club. This four-day tournament is part of the Korn Ferry Tour Schedule. Participants will play a 72-hole competition with a prize of $1,000,000!

Spectators are even able to get autographs from their favorite players, as long as they are in a designated autograph zone.

  1. Savannah Music Festival – March 23rd – April 8th

Another Savannah staple that brings hundreds of musical artists to Savannah every year is the Savannah Music Festival! With multiple daily events, you’ll have the opportunity to spend your time listening to as much music as you can!

  1. SCAD Sidewalk Arts Festival – April 22nd

While there is not a set date yet, every April the SCAD design students put their talents on display with a free sidewalk arts festival. Stroll through Forsyth Park to admire the chalk-art masterpieces spread out on the sidewalks. It is a great way to explore Savannah and see some of the local talent.

In addition to the events above, you can’t go wrong with any of these local activities:

  • Enjoying a riverboat cruise down the Savannah River
  • Spending the day on the beach kayaking or seeing dolphins at Tybee Island
  • Walking around Forsyth Park and getting in a casual photo shoot
  • Seeing the historic and haunted side of Savannah with a walking ghost tour

Savannah is a beautiful city to visit any time of the year, but there is something special about catching Savannah in that sweet spot as it changes from winter to spring. Visiting at the beginning of spring usually means fewer other tourists so you can find better accommodations, get better dinner reservations, and have more of the city to yourself!
