Space

Original in 1868, the Liberty House was the second home on East Liberty Street built for John Hernandez. Listed in Savannah’s city directories as a confectioner from St. Augustine, Florida, Mr. Hernandez is believed to have raised his family of four children in the home before selling the property in retirement. Since its construction, this authentic Savannah townhome has been meticulously cared for boasting original stone fireplaces, stair banisters, hard oak flooring, and incredible custom trim work.
Enter the property one of two ways, either from the ascending staircase on Liberty Street or through the private off-street parking at the rear of the property. As you enter the townhome you will be immediately awestruck by the preserved colonial past that is captured throughout the home. In the front of the home, you will find the formal living room with floor-to-ceiling windows, an original fireplace, high ceilings, and William and Mary furniture. Directly off this space is the formal dining room with a large hardwood dining table set for 6, a colonial-inspired chandelier, and stunning built-in bookshelves.
Along the main hallway connecting the townhome from front to back find the main floor powder room along with beautiful artwork. Follow the hallway to the rear of the property where a modernized gourmet galley kitchen awaits you. This fully appointed kitchen boasts high-end appliances, stone countertops, custom cabinetry, and a butler’s nook. Find everything you need to cook delicious meals including cooking utensils, pots, pans, and dishware. A microwave and a coffee maker are provided.
Directly off the kitchen is the den presenting a comfortable sofa, chairs, and smart TV perfect for all your streaming needs. Step out on the back terrace and follow the staircase down to the shared garden patio. The ample room allows you to spread out and enjoy beautiful Savannah mornings and evenings under the shade of live oak trees, cathedral spires, and high privacy walls.
On the third level of the building find the two private bedrooms. In the master suite enjoy a brand-new king mattress, personal fireplace wrapped in granite, closet and dresser storage, and shuttered windows original to the home. The second bedroom features a new queen mattress, fireplace, and closet and dresser storage. Both private bedrooms feature their own bathrooms, well-appointed with everything you need from bath towels, hand towels, shampoo, and body wash.
Working remotely during your stay? The townhome has ample desk space and high-speed WIFI perfect for video conferencing and multi-tasking.

Getting around

There is a FREE shuttle that picks up just 2 blocks away at Drayton St. and Perry St.. This will take you up and down the Historic District and can drop you off at City Market. Otherwise we recommend using Uber/Lyft as parking around town can be pretty chaotic and is usually less than $5 to get anywhere. There is also a free City "uber" called The Downtowner. You can download the app on your phone and get picked up for free as well :)

Guest Access

You may access the entire parlor level and the outdoor courtyard space past the bottom of the stairs. The outdoor courtyard is the only shared space between you and the ground floor unit. The green dining set below the staircase is for the downstairs unit, and the larger black table and fire pit is for your use.

It was a beautiful place to stay for NYE. We were very very lucky we were able to book these dates almost last minute. It was beautifully furnished and had a historical elegance we loved. I was grateful because the hosts’ were warm and receptive. They were quick to respond as well. We throughly enjoyed it and hope to come back.

Liberty House and Garden is a true gem in a city of gems. Everything about the home was excellent. It's close enough to many attractions but far enough away that you can truly relax and feel like you are home. Brandon and Chase were very responsive and were the perfect hosts. I will definitely stay there again and have already recommended it to several friends.

This home is just as listed. It’s beautifully furnished. It was immaculately clean. It overlooks gorgeous live oaks, draped with Spanish moss. The trolley stop was steps away The hosts were extremely helpful. I’ll book my next Savannah vacation for dates when this property is available.

Spacious, exquisitely decorated, and in a fantastic, walkable location. Beds were comfy (even the pullout couch had a great mattress!) We didn’t do any cooking so I can’t speak to kitchen equipment, but it was also spacious. Thank you!

A fantastic location, historic feel, and lots of space! Colonial Park cemetery is right next door, which I loved. We appreciated the parking spot, but we walked or took the trolley everywhere. Be sure to check out Clarys cafe, Artillery bar, and Sixpence Pub! I would recommend this place to anyone to enjoy Savannah!
