Celebrating St. Patrick's Day in Savannah: What You Need to Know

Savannah might not pop up as one of the top destinations to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, however, you might be surprised that it is one of the most popular holidays celebrated in Savannah. Every year we see a large influx of people (local and not so local) head to Savannah in mid-March to take place in our festivities. From Shamrock themed 5ks to concerts to bar crawls, there is no shortage of ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

Here are three events our South Key Management staff is looking forward to for St. Patrick’s Day 2022.

St. Practice Day

The self-dubbed largest St. Patrick’s Day celebration and practice takes place on Saturday March 12th. As touted by the official website, this is your chance to “practice” and get your stamina up for the actual St. Patrick’s Day festivities you will take place in.

Tickets include free cover and drink specials at each of the crawl’s locations:

  • Stafford’s Public House
  • The Crypt Pub
  • Bay Street Blues
  • Boomys
  • Octane Bar and Lounge
  • Tree House
  • Pour Larrys
  • The Hideaway Lounge
  • Barrelhouse South
  • Club 51 Degrees

Check out the official site to learn more and sign up. If you purchase your tickets by February 11th, you can get them for 50% off!

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

We will definitely be attendance of the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade, this year held on March 17th starting at 10:15am. This is the first time in two years the Parade will be back, though its route will be a bit shorter. The parade has been in existence since 1824 and everyone in Savannah is eager for it to resume!

The parade will feature fun floats, cars, bands and even performers in downtown. Spectators can line up anywhere, though the best spots tend to be within the historic Savannah Squares. We recommend getting there early, but no one will be allowed to camp out before 6am.

If you want a guaranteed spot, there will be bleacher seats again this year going for $30-45 each. Click here for more information on that.

St. Patrick’s Day Festival

Starting with the St. Patrick’s Day parade, the festival takes place on River Street. There are some proposed changes for this year that would move the food and drinks to the restaurants along the festival path, but we know that no matter where the food and drinks are coming from, the festival is going to be a great time! The festival has been a Savannah staple since 1999 and we are glad to see it happen again this year, even if the circumstances are a bit different than in year’s past.

If you want to catch a quick mass before any of the festivities on March 17th, the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist will have their daily feast day mass at 8am. You can go to mass and then head out to the parade and subsequently the festival.
