Savannah, GA, is the perfect destination for a long weekend trip in the South. With a walkable historic downtown filled with museums, shopping, and things to do, tons of fabulous dining options, and quick, accessible day trips, you’ll never be bored during a three-day trip to Savannah, GA!
Though there are plenty of ways to spend a three-day weekend in Savannah to see the best of what our charming city offers, we recommend following this detailed local itinerary filled with things to do, places to eat, where to stay, and more. Get ready for a memorable three days in Savannah — here’s how we recommend spending a weekend in the “Hostess City.”
Day 1: Savannah’s Historic District & River Street

Morning
Welcome to Savannah! To kick off this Savannah itinerary, head to Forsyth Park, a beautiful 30-acre park in the heart of Downtown Savannah. Spend some time strolling around the park, and be sure to snap a photo in front of the Forsyth Park Fountain and walk through the Garden of Fragrance. If you’re visiting on a Saturday morning, browse the local vendor’s stands at the Forsyth Park Farmers Market!
Once you’ve worked up an appetite, grab a table for brunch at Collins Quarter, one of Savannah’s most popular breakfast spots. Though this local restaurant chain has two locations in Savannah’s Historic Downtown, the location in Forsyth Park is most convenient for this itinerary.
Afternoon
After you’ve filled up on eggs and mimosas, spend the rest of the day checking out some of the major historic attractions in Downtown Savannah. You can wander through Savannah’s charming historic squares, tour the magnificent Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist, or stroll down Jones Street — considered by many to be the most beautiful street in America!
During your afternoon of sightseeing in Historic Savannah, visit River Street — a historic street that runs along the Savannah River. From here, you can go on a river cruise aboard the Georgia Queen with Savannah Riverboat Cruises, grab lunch at a waterfront restaurant, head to the Plant Riverside District for shopping, dining, and entertainment, or grab a drink during happy hour at one of the best rooftop bars in Savannah that offer stunning views of the Savannah riverfront.
Evening
To wrap up the evening, head back to your vacation rental to freshen up, and then grab a table at The Olde Pink House — one of the most famous restaurants in Savannah.
The Olde Pink House has a fascinating history that dates back to the 1770s, but now, it specializes in serving Southern cuisine and cocktails with a refined twist in a charming historic home. However, make reservations before your 3 days in Savannah — otherwise, you likely will not get a table at this iconic spot!
Day 2: Shopping, Museums & Ghost Tours

Morning
After a great night of rest in your charming vacation rental, start your second day in Savannah with coffee and pastries from one of our favorite coffee shops in Savannah on Broughton Street, like The Coffee Fox or The Paris Market and Brocante (also a great place to shop in Savannah!).
With your coffee in hand, stroll down Broughton Street to check out some of the street’s must-visit shops, like Savannah Bee Company (where you can do a honey tasting!) or Leopold’s Ice Cream — a local scoop shop that has been serving homemade ice cream in Savannah since 1919. Then, head to City Market, an open-air market that has been around since the 1700s, for more shopping in Savannah. While you’re here, grab a slice of pizza from Vinnie Van Go-Go’s for lunch (a local favorite!) and take a tour of the American Prohibition Museum, one of the top museums in Savannah.
Afternoon
Historic Downtown Savannah is known for its beautiful historic homes and mansions, so this afternoon, tour one or two of these homes to take a deeper dive into the city’s interesting history.
Two of Savannah’s most popular historic homes are the Mercer-Williams House Museum, made famous by the novel and movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, and Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters, a well-preserved home from the 1800s that explores the complicated relationship between the wealthy homeowners and the enslaved people who lived there. Former Girl Scouts may also enjoy visiting the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace Museum, where the founder of the Girl Scouts was born.
Evening
After another busy day of exploring Savannah, head to one of our favorite spots for a delicious dinner, like The Grey, a chef-inspired restaurant in a restored Greyhound bus station, or The Fitzroy, which serves elevated pub fare in an inviting atmosphere.
And the night isn’t over yet! Did you know that Savannah is considered one of the (if not the most!) haunted cities in the United States? That said, going on a ghost tour in Savannah’s Historic District is a must during your 3 days in Savannah. There are dozens of options, from trolley and walking tours to pub crawls and hearse rides, but most ghost tours include stops at Savannah’s most haunted houses, squares, and cemeteries, like the Sorrel Weed House and Colonial Park Cemetery.
Day 3: Day Trips & Beach Time

Morning
To kick off your final day in Savannah, grab a delicious and filling breakfast at one of our favorite spots in Historic Savannah, like Rhett or The Ordinary Pub. Then, head to Tybee Island for a day at the beach! Tybee Island is only a 30-minute drive from the Historic District, making it a quick and accessible day trip from Savannah.
However, if you don’t mind adding a few minutes to your drive, we recommend stopping at Wormsloe State Historic Site on the way to Tybee Island. Wormsloe Historic Site is a former plantation in Savannah that is now known for its stunning avenue of oak trees covered with Spanish moss leading up to the oldest tabby ruins in Savannah. It’s a great place to stop for a picture!
Afternoon
After making it to the beach, spend the afternoon exploring all the best things to do on Tybee Island.
You can climb the Tybee Island Light Station (the oldest and tallest lighthouse in Georgia!), kayak or go on a boat ride to look for dolphins, relax at one of the island’s beautiful beaches, visit Fort Pulaski National Monument, or check out the shopping, dining, and entertainment on the Tybee Island Pier & Pavilion. Consider heading to Mid Beach to sit down for lunch at The Deck Beach Bar and Kitchen — the only waterfront restaurant on Tybee Island!
Evening
After getting back to Savannah, head out to one final rooftop dinner at The Lost Square or Bar Julian to enjoy great food, drinks, and stunning views of Savannah. Then head back to your vacation rental to get rested up before heading home tomorrow. We hope you had an incredible time in Savannah!
